Water hard­ness and limes­cale: where do the prob­lems come from?

When hard water is heated, the min­er­als dis­solved in it pre­cip­it­ate as limes­cale. A lay­er of limes­cale acts as insu­la­tion, so heat­ing equip­ment needs more energy to pro­duce the same tem­per­at­ure.

Limes­cale is often tackled only once the prob­lem is already vis­ible in pipe­work, heat exchangers or equip­ment. Pre­ven­tion, how­ever, is clearly more cost-effect­ive than repairs and clean­ing after the event.

Limes­cale pre­ven­tion without chem­ic­als: the Vul­can® water treat­ment unit
The Vul­can® water treat­ment unit pre­vents limes­cale depos­its from form­ing without chem­ic­als or salt. The device alters the crys­tal struc­ture of the limes­cale in the water so that the crys­tals do not stick to each oth­er, or to the sur­faces of pipe­work, heat­ing ele­ments and heat exchangers, in the same way as in untreated water.

The nat­ur­al min­er­als in the water are retained, while the harm­ful effects of limes­cale are reduced.

Pro­tect­ing a prop­er­ty’s domest­ic water: fil­tra­tion and limes­cale pre­ven­tion com­bined

To pro­tect a prop­er­ty’s domest­ic water sys­tem, we recom­mend a com­plete solu­tion that com­bines effect­ive fil­tra­tion with limes­cale pre­ven­tion.

  • A JUDO particle fil­ter is installed after the water meter. It removes sand, rust and oth­er solids from the water and pro­tects pipe­work, valves, heat exchangers and water fix­tures from wear.
  • The Vul­can® water treat­ment unit pre­vents limes­cale depos­its from form­ing through­out the domest­ic water sys­tem.

Ice cream fact­ory and con­fec­tion­ery fact­ory

At an ice cream fact­ory, limes­cale was build­ing up in the con­dens­er water pipes of the refri­ger­a­tion plant. We installed sev­er­al Vul­can sys­tems on the pipes to pre­vent limes­cale build-up.

Fre­quently asked ques­tions

In many cases Vul­can gradu­ally reduces old limes­cale depos­its dur­ing nor­mal use, because the treated limes­cale crys­tals no longer stick to sur­faces in the same way. The main task of the device, how­ever, is to pre­vent new depos­its from form­ing.
Wheth­er thick, old limes­cale is removed depends on factors such as water qual­ity, flow con­di­tions and the amount of depos­its. If the sys­tem con­tains a lot of old limes­cale, we recom­mend clean­ing it first and then using Vul­can to pre­vent limes­cale from form­ing again.

No. Vul­can is main­ten­ance-free.

No. Vul­can works without chem­ic­als or salt, and the nat­ur­al min­er­als in the water are retained.

In a domest­ic water sys­tem, the JUDO particle fil­ter and Vul­can are installed after the water meter.
